BEST BACKSTAGE BUFFET
(New Times - Phoenix, AZ)
When it comes to veggie platters and beef kebabs, no kitchen magician can touch Akbar Zadara, the Persian gourmet of ASU catering fame. A tray-trimmer extraordinaire, Akbar has been known to specialize in color-coordinated fruit platters for stars like Kool and the Gang and Tom Petty. But the biggest thrill for the die-hard fan, who fell in love with rock'n'roll when he heard it played by American students in Tehran, came in December of 1987 when he cooked a giant beef roast for U2, earning an autographed chef's coat for his trouble.
